#Chhotekadam..keeping the heart healthy!

I am not getting any younger.  I will be 40 next year.  Times have changed.  From the past generation, our lifestyle, our stressors are a lot different.  Gadgets have made life easier yet life has become more complicated.  Today a person as young as 30 suffers from health issues.  So, many young people die of heart attack, which is shocking.

What causes all this?  Majorly sedentary lifestyle, long travel hours, lack of exercise, more junk food in diet, consuming more packaged food, being lonely, being unhappy with professional personal life and so on..

I am no exception either!  As a woman who has given birth to 2 kids, managing kids, home, job all alone, supporting a busy and stressed out husband, worrying about future, raising two growing up kids, and suffering from a health issues, its worrisome!  I want to live healthy and not bedridden in my old age and be a burden to my spouse and kids.  I want to visit so many places, do so many pending things!

I have slowly started incorporating small changes in my lifestyle.  As a child or even as a young girl, I wasn’t too inclined towards exercise or sports.  I have started doing 45 minutes to 1 hour walk daily, joined a yoga class.

I have small meals 6 times a day trying to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, nuts and liquids.  I am still trying to cut down sugar.  One should also not crash diet to lose weight.  As we grow older, our metabolism slows down but our body also starts “breaking down”.  So, its very important that we eat healthy.  We should not cut down on any food group.  Moderation is the key to everything.  I eat everything in moderation.

Stress is one of the biggest factors of heart issues.  As we grow older, our stressors increase.  Office, family, relations, children, money, you name it.  Any form of exercise is a great stress-buster.  It releases endorphin which makes us happy.  Yoga and pranayam are great stress-busters.  I do yoga and pranayam daily.

Writing for me is therapeutic.  I have started blogging and freelance writing and this gives me immense happiness and satisfaction.  I listen to music to help me relax.

I have become more forgiving and tolerant over the years.  Spending time with my family gives me immense pleasure.

I hope to be heart healthy till the day I die..!
